LET'S GO Web Series Review

What's woody wood, grasshoppers?

I wanna give a review about season 1 of the web series Let's Go

The series is based in Brownsville, Brooklyn which shows the grime and grit of the hood

The series was action packed throughout, and properly gave people a tour of the good, the bad and the ugly of Brownsville....from friendship, betrayal, and the funny shit you may see on the regular...not to mention the sexy ass ladies

Someone should give Denise my number

The character who played "Denise" in the show is the beauty right 'chea, better known as Diamond The Body

While I think the sex scene between Denise and Class could've been better, I think the series overall is a good look for urban web series fans

My favorite characters are Mel and Jonathan...the funniest cats in the series...they most definitely should've gotten more airtime because they gave me life thru 12 episodes

And with that said, I wanna give the PROS and CONS of the web series

PROS

Action
Realism of Brooklyn
Professional camera work
Comedy from Mel and Jonathan
Denise (LOL)
Drinking as a form of painkiller (a lot of people don't realize that drinking sometimes numbs the pain)
The handshake (reminds me of mob shakes back home in the Chi)

CONS

Too many characters
Not enough suspense
Lacking plot twists
Too many dry spots (some of the episodes needed to be shorter and straight to the point)
The acting from some of the characters needs improvement

Overall, the series kept my attention throughout the long rides to Maryland and Long Island

I see the potential of Let's Go, but in order to take the series to the next level, the writer(s) of Let's Go needs to figure out how to separate themselves from other urban web series content wise

Shout out to C-Class for winning the Best Actor in a Lead Role @ the 2018 Urban Web Series awards

FINAL GRADE - 7/10

P.S.

The YouTube thumbnail of episode 1 was a good marketing tactic to draw me into watching the series considering that the scene came much later...LOL...smh

Rest In Power - AD The General

What's woody wood, grasshoppers?

I want to give a 21 gunz salute to a very dear associate, A.D. the General

She passed away last weekend during the Nor'easter that hit NYC

CLICK HERE to read the article

A.D. had hosted the Elegant Hoodness music showcases in NYC and other parts of the country, and was one of the many promoters who showed me love in my eMCee days

Yes...
...I used to rap

I performed at a few of her shows in The Bronx and Brooklyn...very cool and supportive of my endeavors...we haven't spoken since I stepped away from the music biz in 2008, but her vibe and spirit will be missed

One love Anaida Duran

Aight ya'll, I'm Audi 5 stacks

Peace and Afro Grease

Copastetic is one of my favorite words because of A.D.

SURE SHOT! Troy Ave - 2 Legit 2 Quit

What's woody wood, grasshoppers?

I don't rock with today's rap music for various reasons, but I fucks with Troy Ave's new banga 2 Legit 2 Quit

The track is pretty much about the infamous shooting that happened at Irving Plaza in NYC two years ago...the comic strip in the video is a dope concept...he also lick shots at TaxstoneJoe Budden, Mysonne, Cassanova 2X, and his ex BSB homies

If you're unfamiliar with the unfortunate event @ Irving Plaza, CLICK HERE and read

In the meanwhile, CLICK HERE to listen to the song that I have on repeat, or peep the video below

RESPECT LIFE Web Series Review

What's woody wood, grasshoppers?

Seems like urban web shows on YouTube is the new wave...Money and Violence wasn't the first hood joint, but that web series sure as hell kicked off the popularity of internet drama...at least in the urban demographics

And that leads me to Respect Life

I had zero interest of tuning into web shows...let alone hood joints...thanks to my involvement in the Facebook Angry Fan Movement group, I caught wind about Respect Life on the strength of rave reviews I peeped in the group

So this past weekend, I binge watched the web series created by Brooklyn's own Boom P

Needless to say...

...I was hooked

Boom P's name had rung bells once I saw the series posted in the group...I bugged out and was like, "Wasn't homie on the SMACK DVD?"...then I popped in the official DVD (not them bootlegged shits) that I copped back in 2006 to connect the dots

And BAM!

...there he was

Shout out to Black Star Music and Video that used to be on 128th and Lenox in Harlem (R.I.P)

Click here to peep the Boom P SMACK music video

Funny thing is...

...Boom P's name is nowhere to be found on the DVD, but he stood out to me...not because him and T-Mo from Goodie Mob look like they could be brothers...Boom P stood out because he rhymed waaaaaay better than the other independent eMCees on that issue of SMACK

It's poetic justice for Boom P to create a popular web series 10 years later considering his music video wasn't promoted as one of the acts on the front and back cover of the DVD

The web series kept me on edge...the suspense was crazy...the early parts of the series kept my interest before the middle parts kinda bored me...but once the drama and plot twists had picked up by episode 7, I was permanently hooked!

The series masterfully captured the true essence of Brooklyn, New York to the T...the bodega owned by "Aye-rabs" is the perfect symbol for the hood...there's literally one or two (sometimes three) on every block..."bodega" is another name for a corner store for you out of town headz

Anyway, without giving away the storyline and spoiling the show for those who haven't seen the joint, a few things stood out to me throughout season one:

- Good acting

- Realism of the streets

- Societal issues

- Professional camera work

- Capturing the grit and grime of Brooklyn

The constant plot twists throughout the series, especially the one that involved Boom P's character, Melo, and his Puerto Rican connect

- Drama in the studio

- Girlfriends in the drug game

- Street politics between hustlers and stick-up kids

- The contrast between how old headz and young dudes move in the hood

- The shocking betrayal

- The introduction of non-Blacks (the Russians) in the street game

- The dope music throughout the episodes (they need to show the tracklistings in the info section for season two 'cause the joints in season one are bangin')

Even though the show is action packed, it's hard to keep up with the characters in the earlier parts of the series...too many characters tend to confuse me...I started recognizing who was who by episode 8 once the show got rolling...Boom P might gotta be mindful of that for the next season and so forth when he writes the show

The other issue I had with the show is the lack of character development

Let's use Boys N The Hood and Menace II Society as examples

Menace is more raw than Boyz N the Hood, but Menace lacks character development whereas Boyz N the Hood showcases a variety of a cast...everybody in Menace is pretty much the same

O Dog is no different from A-Wax and Caine, and even though Stacey is headed to college to play football, his attitude is no different from the rest of the crew...Shareef was just the token ex-knucklehead who turned Muslim and got made fun of most of the time

Boyz N the Hood on the other hand has different characters that make them stand out more...Tre is different from Dough Boy...Ricky was different from Dough Boy...Chris is in a wheelchair...Dooky sucks on a pacifier...Mad Dog rocks shades and braids with the fade on the side, etc.

And there weren't a lot of characters that you had to remember in the movie

Then again, some people don't give a fuck about character development...they just want the action...LOL

Regardless of those two issues of the show, I'll most definitely keep my eyes and ears open for season two...Boom P announced it's April 2016 debut...I have no intentions of watching any other web series besides Respect Life until someone recommends another joint

By the way, STOP comparing Respect Life to Money and Violence...both shows are good pieces of work in their own right...there's enough room for everyone to eat...headz gotta get off this Malcom vs Martin shit and enjoy the shows

FINAL GRADE - 8.5/10

And on that note, I'm Audi

Peace and Afro Grease

40 B.A.R.R.S vs Jaz the Rapper

What's woody wood, grasshoppers?

Damn, ya'll...my baby mama 40 B.A.R.R.S got bodied by Brooklyn's own Jaz the Rapper...murdered 3-0 at the Queen of the Ring's No Holds Barred event in NYC a few weeks ago #NHB

For all you non-battle rap fans, whenever someone gets bodied or killed on stage, that's another way of saying they didn't win a round...not even close...they got SMASHED!!!

Damn...the battle was hard to watch, but don't get it fucked up...I'm still Team 40...

...everyone takes a lost in life, baby

It's how you come back from the L that matters

And on that note, Jaz did her fuckin' thing...I say no more...I'll let the clip speak for itself

My favorite bar of the battle:

“Your name is Carlissa, but you couldn’t lease-a-car” – Jaz The Rapper to 40

OUCH!

Biggie's Former DJ and Male Prostitutes

What’s woody wood, kinfolk?

Well…well…well

Mister Cee aka THE FINISHER was once again caught fooling around with a male prostitute (allegedly...LOL)

Homeboy claims he isn’t gay…Ummm, okay

For those who don’t know about Mister Cee, he’s the legendary DJ for New York's Hot 97 radio station and once DJ’ed for Big Daddy Kane and Biggie...so you know he’d put in that work in the game…heard he also knows how to rock a party

I’m not even trippin' on him for being gay (allegedly)…that lifestyle is not my cup of henny, but hey, to each their own…people are gonna do whatever they gonna do regardless of what others think

What baffles me is him DENYING he’s gay (allegedly) as a public figure when he got CAUGHT fooling around with a male prostitute (allegedly) not once...but TWICE!

I’m also mad at him for not booking a ROOM so he won't get caught gettin' it in with prostitutes…LOL

Homie is a public figure…when you’re in the public eye, you gotta move different than your average joe…one reckless move as a celebrity can haunt you for life if you wanna keep your shit on the low

What you do behind closed doors is your business...I'm not interested in anyone's sexuality as much as anyone's religion, but keep it fuckin’ real, people…if you’re ashamed of who you are, stop doing whatever you’re doing…stop hiding who you are when you get caught with your pants down

No pun intended

Click HERE to check out Power 105 Breakfast Club goin’ in on Mister Cee (no pun intended) on your phone

On the flip side…

Everybody has a RIGHT to privacy (even though his arrest was public)…I don’t think people should announce what they do in their bedrooms…shit, I don’t like when muthafuckas try to figure out what I’m doing

Also…

Mister Cee is from Brooklyn and comes from a West Indian background…Brooklyn has a reputation for gangsterism as the land of goons, robbers, thieves, and other criminal shit, and the West Indian culture is not cool with homosexuality…so I can understand why he’s hesitant with coming out the closet IF he plays for the other team

But damn, homey…sometimes you gotta face the music instead of beating around the bush, no pun intended

Mister Cee could've been the Jason Collins of Hip-Hop...LOL

At least he DID admit to trickin’ off on prostitutes and “skrippers”

*shrugs*

The issue of him trickin' off on hookers is between him and Hot 97 since soliciting prostitutes is a crime

Anyway

Click HERE to read the full story and listen to Mister Cee’s side of the story

Aight ya’ll…I’m out

Math vs Dose THE REMATCH

Math (the left) vs Dose (the right)

Ayooooo…

I’m a big time battle rap fan…as an MC, I too have battle rapped back in high school and college…battle rapping was a way to test your skill as an MC…nowadays, battle rapping has reached to higher levels with more sophisticated rhymes than years before

I wanna introduce this infamous rematch between Math Hoffa and J Dose for two reasons:

1. Their first battle was popular back in ‘07

2. Their first battle was popular in ’07 because of a punch to the chin

Now, I don’t condone violence in a battle rap…you kick someone's ass verbally because getting physical shows how weak minded you are…but shit, the punch was funny as hell…ha ha!

Check out the 1st clip below for the first battle between Math and Dose aka the infamous chin checkin’

The 2nd clip is an explanation of why Math had punched Dose

And the 3rd clip is the REMATCH that took place a few weeks ago

Here's my recap:

I think Math won the rematch 2-1 out of 3 rounds...Dose won the first round (he SNAPPED!) and Math won the last two

Dose is a dope lyricist, he just lacks a stage presence, and he needs to slow down his rhymes so everyone can FEEL what he's saying...some of the tightest shit he spat was rapped too fast to grasp in one listen

Math controlled the stage better and kept me more entertained...I'm all about bars (pure lyricism of wits), but I also want my battle MC to entertain and move the crowd

Anyway, enuff of that shit...see for yourself

Peace

Mayweather-Cotto Mansion Fight Party RECAP

I’m back on my bullshit, people…the next book I’m writing is whoopin my time into shape…but I had time to squeeze in a quick blog before I go hard again

Ayo…

Last Saturday I hit up a Mansion party hosted by Team Gator (Shouts out to Bryant and Peoples) somewhere in the jungles of Connecticut…I say “somewhere” because trees surrounded the mansion along with dirty roads leading to the joint

We partied in the middle of nowhere like the letter H

Slap yourself if you didn’t catch that punchline

Taking the train to Brooklyn was a story itself…from this dude stopping me to ask where I copped my fedoras to a chick “psst psst” me, I knew that was the start of a wacky night

One thing I give Brooklyn chicks credit is that they’re GANGSTER when it comes to letting dudes know they’re feeling them

Anyway…I took the Brooklyn bus to the Connecticut mansion (Shouts out to Rameek)…10 buses rolled out from various parts of NYC in total…and let me tell you, the liquor was flowing faster than an Asian Tsunami on that bus

Chicks were CHOOSING HARD, too…not a lot of stuck up broads on my Brooklyn bus...if they felt you, they’ll let you know

As you can see below, you wouldn’t blame them

Folks were drunk before they got to the mansion…the joint was wild…not for nothing, my trip would’ve been fine on the strength of the bus ride to the spot…the party itself was the icing on the cake

We got there at around 10:30pm…just before the main event…I didn’t give a fuck about the fight…I just wanted to get away from the city for a hot minute and pass out bookmarks to promote THICK

Supporters
One of the promoters had suggested I bring copies of Thick When the Chances are Slim…I only brought 3 joints…Carrying around a knapsack of books at a party was out the question…so I brought a light load…you know I had to mix grinding with pleasure

I’m pissed off at myself for not bringing more books…a group of women at a table actually snapped at me because I ran out of books…which is funny because that never happened to me at a party…chicks usually play broke whenever I sell books at parties…that’s the main reason why I only brought 3

There was this one dude who diet hated on the king…he said something slick to me (which I don't specifically recall), and I fired back with, “Stop cup cakin’,” because he was all up on this chick on the couch upstairs

He answered, “This is the type of girl you cup cake with.”

I started to comeback with, “Naw, player…she should be cup cakin’ on YOU,”…I stopped myself and chucked him a thumbs up as to say “okay”…I wasn’t in the mood to roast him

A tap was good enough

Besides that, I got love from everybody…this other cat handed me a cigar out of respect even though I don’t smoke…I’ll use the cigar for a photo shoot or somethin’

The only issue I had about the whole party is that the busing going and leaving could’ve been better organized, and the party ended abruptly around 2:30am because a fight almost broke out outside the mansion

You know how niggas get sometimes…always wanna fuck up a good thing

But damn, at least the DJ or someone could’ve let folks know that the party was about to wrap up…one last song or somethin’…shit….LOL

I give the mansion party a 9 out of 10…shouts out to Team Gator once again for the mini-vacay…I honestly enjoyed myself, which says a lot because I don’t party hard like that anymore

Aight ya’ll…I’m out like Cotto

Nah’Sun

Love those Fishnets...Owwwwww!!!
